Consumers National Bank Among Crain’s List Of Top Small Business Administration Lenders

Consumers National Bank has been listed among the top Small Business Administration 7(a) lenders in Northern Ohio in Crain’s Cleveland Business magazine’s January 2022 issue. The list ranked Small Business Administration (SBA) lenders by total value of approved loans in fiscal year 2021. Consumers Bank ranked third in total loans and fifth in total value of loans originated in the Cleveland District.

Consumers National Bank originated 43 loans in fiscal 2021, a 79.2 percent increase over fiscal year 2020, for $16.8 million, a 201.6 percent increase over the prior year. These loans supported 912 jobs which is a 170.6 percent 1-year increase according to the report.

“Consumers has developed a strong reputation for selectively using SBA programs when developing financing packages for small businesses throughout northeast Ohio. The 7(a) loans noted in the ranking are in addition to the bank’s participation in the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program, through which we originated 1,554 loans over the last two fiscal years. The investments we have made in the SBA program are making a real difference for businesses in our communities,” said Scott Dodds, the bank’s Executive Vice President and Senior Loan Officer.” Sean Ulik, our Government Loan Program Manager, helps our lending team navigate various SBA and other government related programs to structure financing packages that allow borrowers to effectively accomplish their goals. Our experience and skill set allows a $950 million community bank to rank with large regional and national bank and non-bank lenders”

Consumers Bank was also listed as the lender on the eleventh largest SBA 504 loan in northern Ohio. The $3.66 million loan package financed construction of the K-1 Speed Indoor Go Kart racing facility in North Canton.

“We use the SBA programs for a number of reasons,” said Ulik. The SBA can reduce capital requirements for equipment purchases and expansion, lock in lower long term interest rates on owner occupied commercial real estate projects and help with business acquisitions. The programs make good quality loans more feasible for our small business customers. Learning how to effectively utilize them has made our team better lenders and advisors,” he continued.
